Frankel/Viertel/Routh and Baruch Awarded for
Best Play Revival for production of “The Norman Conquests”
RALEIGH, NC (June 11, 2009) – PSE Broadway congratulates Richard Frankel, Tom Viertel, Marc Routh and Steven Baruch —its co-Executive Producers of the musical under development about South African apartheid— on their 2009 Tony Award for Best Play Revival of its production “The Norman Conquests.”
Nominated for seven Tony Awards, “The Norman Conquests” is a comedy trilogy written by Alan Ayckbourne and directed by Matthew Warchus. The limited engagement is showing at Circle in the Square on Broadway through July 25.
Ben Brantley of The New York Times said, "The Norman Conquests cripples you with laughter. Which play should you see? You can't lose with any one, but go see all three, lucky theatergoer, and you win big."
The award to Frankel, Viertel, Routh and Baruch as co-producers of “The Norman Conquests” marks the group's 36th Tony Award. They became only the second independent producer in the history of the Tony Awards to win all four “best” awards—winning Best Musical (twice), Best Play (twice), Best Musical Revival and Best Play Revival.
PSE Broadway and Routh / Frankel / Baruch / Viertel Group are lead producers for the apartheid musical, targeted to open in Spring 2011, which depicts the 20th-century South African struggle, led by Nelson Mandela, against apartheid. The play will benefit from anecdotes from Zindzi Mandela's youth, as she grew up during apartheid as the daughter of Nelson Mandela and Winnie Mandela.
PSE BROADWAY LLC is a subsidiary of Futterer Partners LCC. Founded in 1999 and based in Raleigh, N.C., the company is engaged in marketing, sales, communication and consultation in the sports and entertainment industries.
