Raleigh Sports and Entertainment Firm Makes Multiple Entries into Chinese Marketing

RALEIGH, NC – Noting that China’s technology giant Lenovo has opened shop just next door in Morrisville, Raleigh’s PSE-3 has reciprocated in kind with multiple marketing ventures involving the People’s Republic of China.

PSE-3, a national boutique sports and entertainment marketing firm, placed Los Angeles’s Commerce Hotel & Casino as title sponsor of IMG’s 2013 edition of The World’s Strongest Man and extended The Commerce’s Asian marketing effort through multiple programs with Chinese LPGA star Shanshan Feng.

Worlds Strongest Man

Feats of strength were in major supply in the 2013 competition at The Commerce World’sStrongest Man filmed in August in China.

The World’s Strongest Man—in its 35th year and one of television’s longest-running shows—is distributed world-wide to over 600 million households in over 100 countries, including China. IMG produced the acknowledged world championship of strength August 17-24 in the South China Sea resort city of Sanya. CBS and CBS Sports Network are scheduled to air the 2013 event later this year.

“Sports events conducted overseas are not new,” said PSE-3 managing member Bill Futterer, who attended the production session in China. “But with an exploding global economy and the Internet, a company doesn’t need to be a Fortune 500 firm to reach billions of potential customers overseas.”

Former major league baseball player Gene Locklear’s original oil painting of China’s star LPGA golfer Shanshan Feng was reproduced in both limited edition prints and as a promotional poster for use by PSE-3’s Los Angeles client, The Commerce Hotel & Casino.

PSE-3 also placed Commerce in a sponsorship with Feng, the only golfer from mainland China to win a major U.S. golf event. Feng won the 2012 Wegman’s LPGA Championship, one of that tour’s majors. She’s now the 10th-ranked women’s golfer in the world, having notched six Top 10 finishes in 2013.

“The Commerce is hosting VIPs October 3-6 at the Reignwood LPGA Classic near Beijing,” said Futterer. “As a major sports star in China, she will be the focus in her home country and a coveted marketing asset for The Commerce at the event.”

Not only will VIPs at The Commerce’s hospitality suite meet Feng, but they will also receive a limited edition print of an original oil painting of the golf star by former major league baseball player Gene Locklear. The unique marketing extension created by PSE-3 uses the talents of one of America’s most celebrated Native American artists. Locklear is a Pembroke, N.C., native and a member of the Lumbee Tribe. He and Feng will attend a subsequent VIP event in Los Angeles in November.
